City of Kenosha Gains Control of Pharmacy Spend

In 2018, the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, with 900 employees and approximately 2,400 plan members, looked to replace their existing pharmacy benefits manager due to unsustainable cost increases. Using preferred contract rates and terms negotiated by BHCG, the City implemented Navitus Health Solutions on January 1, 2019 and the results have been outstanding.

  • In the first three years with Navitus acting as their pharmacy benefit manager, the City has saved more than $2.3 million
  • Due to Navitus’ 100 percent pass through of rebates and pharmacy discounts, the City’s rebates increased 318 percent from approximately $164,000 in 2018 to $687,000 in 2021
  • Net plan cost Per Member Per Month (PMPM) decreased 38 percent from $79.58 in 2018 to $49.05 in 2021
  • Due to Navitus’ clinically-driven formulary management, total plan costs (before rebates) decreased 12 percent from 2018 to 2021

Said Steve Stanczak, director of human resources & labor relations, “The City’s move to Navitus Health Solutions in 2019 has been a rousing success as these results clearly show. In addition to providing outstanding customer service, Navitus has delivered on its promise of complete transparency and significant cost savings.”

Other BHCG member employers that have implemented Navitus are experiencing similar results. To learn more about how your organization can gain control over your pharmacy spend, contact BHCG Executive Director Jeffrey Kluever at 262-875-3312 X1 or jkluever@bhcgwi.org
