BHCG Member Employers Tour Children's Hospital of Wisconsin

Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW), a member employer of BHCG, hosted the July Benefits Forum for an informative and enlightening tour of the facilities and presentations by Peggy Troy, president and CEO and Nancy Korom, chief nursing officer and vice president of CHW. Highlights of their presentations included:

  • CHW's vision – Wisconsin's kids will be the healthiest in the nation
  • CHW has 90+ locations statewide
  • They are much more than just a nationally ranked hospital – they provide:
    • Primary care and urgent care locations throughout southeast Wisconsin
    • Child well being services
    • Care management services
    • A wide range of community health and education services including child advocacy and social services
    • Clinic locations in northeast Wisconsin,
    • Specialty care, surgery centers, dental care, behavioral health care and school nurses
    • Mental health and wellness services in the Fox Valley through Catalpa Health
  • CHW focuses on providing the best and safest care, anchored in value:
    • Higher surgical and anesthesia volumes to drive better outcomes
    • Reducing hospital-acquired conditions
    • Using the right imaging tests to reduce unnecessary radiation exposure
    • Avoiding unnecessary emergency room visits
  • CHW provides technology solutions for parents including:
  • Determinants of health – staying healthy is mostly about what happens outside the four walls of a hospital or a doctor's office (only 10 percent of health status is attributable to quality health care). Consequently, CHW also focuses on:
    • Helping prevent injuries (most kids are healthy; injuries are their greatest risk)
    • Delivering primary care via school nurses
    • Engaging the community using community health navigators to:
      • Increase public health knowledge and self-sufficiency
      • Make resource connections for essential human needs (food, housing, medical services)
