2016 UnitedHealthcare Results

2016 results for BHCG employers using UnitedHealthcare’s network were recently presented to BHCG member employers. Some of the highlights include:

  • Employees and spouses of BHCG employers that are highly engaged with Premium providers have shown 15 percent lower spend, when compared to adults with low utilization of Premium Providers, after adjusting for high cost claimants and claim risk differences.i
  • For 2016 it is estimated that BHCG’s self-funded member employers experienced a 10 percent per member per month decrease in medical care costs compared to 2015.
  • Over the past eleven years BHCG’s self-funded member employers have experienced an average annual increase in medical care costs of 1.5 percent per health member per month when compared to 2005 base-year costs. Over this same 11-year time frame, costs in southeast Wisconsin have increased on average between five and 10 percent per year.

Best Doctors, BHCG’s informed decision making vendor since 2012, recently reported its 2016 results for BHCG self-funded employers

The Best Doctors program, utilizing the world’s top physicians, offers consumers facing difficult medical decisions access to expert medical consultations in addition to a range of other tools and resources so they may have the confidence to make informed decisions about their care. Highlights of 2016 results for self-funded employers include:

  • Employees or their dependents placed 634 calls to Best Doctors
  • 328 Find A Best Doctor services were provided
  • 5 Ask The Expert services were provided
  • 133 InterConsultations were provided
  • Diagnosis changes were made in 40 percent of the cases, while treatment recommendation changes were made in 80 percent of the cases
  • Total realized cost savings of more than $1.1 million, resulting in an ROI of 1.56:1
