2023 Annual Report

20 Years of Leading Change & Creating Value

A Commitment to the Power of Collaboration

A letter from the Executive Director

2023 was a landmark year for the Business Health Care Group as we celebrated our 20th anniversary! As major local health care purchasers, we have always understood the power of our collective influence to lead change and create value in moving toward a more sustainable health care system for the benefit of all. We further demonstrated that commitment in 2023 with a number of significant accomplishments:

Cumulatively, all these efforts demonstrate our continued commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and the community, while assisting employers in providing competitive health care benefits to their employees and their dependents.

Celebrating 20 Years of Leading Change and Creating Value

Over the past two decades, BHCG’s committed member employers have made remarkable progress in using data-driven strategies to improve the value of health care in the state — both quality and cost. Their efforts have benefited employers, employees and their families and the community. Our event on November 15 was the culmination of yearslong recognition of the impact our organization has made over these past 20 years.

Mary Ellen Stanek, president of Baird Funds and co-chief investment officer of Baird Advisors, summed it up best when she offered this assessment of BHCG’s first 20 years: “The success of BHCG’s efforts is a real positive for the business community. We’re driving better health care decisions and patient management by encouraging effective relationships between patients and their primary care providers, resulting in better care and significantly lower health care costs for our member employers and their health plan members.”

BHCG Centivo Partnership

BHCG-Centivo High-Performance Primary Care-Centered Health Plan Solution: The Results Are In: Change Is Possible

2023 represented the second year of the BHCG and Centivo high-performance primary care-centered health plan solution made available to self-funded employers in Wisconsin. This innovative health plan offers employers a way to deliver high quality, affordable health care to employees and their families by directing patients to high value providers and encouraging coordinated care through the use of primary care physicians.

The high-performance health plan solution includes broad, intermediate and value provider networks, known as WI-1, WI-2 and WI-3, respectively. All three of these provider networks were expanded in 2023 with the addition of SSM Health hospitals and clinics in the greater Fond du Lac area, including locations in Beaver Dam, Fond du Lac, Ripon and Waupun. Further expansion occurred in networks WI-1 and WI-2 with the addition of Door County Medical Center and its clinics. Additional provider network expansion is anticipated in 2024.

The plan also features fully transparent administrative services, efficient claims processing, advanced cost controls, employer analytics and integrated stop loss.

Results for employers implementing Centivo in 2023 were outstanding with total medical plan spending 18% below  benchmark of typical mid-size to large employer plans.

Growing Membership

As word spread among employers and their advisors about the impact BHCG has on increasing health care value for member employers, BHCG membership has continued to grow. New employers joined our organization, and many existing members added the BHCG-Centivo high-performance health plan solution to their benefit offerings.

Our Best in Class Strategic Partners

BHCG provides a variety of solutions for employers – in Wisconsin and nationally – to manage their health care benefit programs more effectively. These solutions, offered by our best in class strategic partners at favorable contractual rates and terms, have been selected because of their alignment with our mission of improving the quality and cost efficiency of health care for our member employers, their employees and dependents and the community.

In 2023 we maintained and further enhanced our relationships with Centivo, Navitus Health Solutions, Quantum Health, Artemis By Nomi Health and Aitia. These employer solutions are integral to the BHCG value proposition.

Demonstrating Responsible Corporate Citizenship: Sixth Annual Golf Outing Benefits Sojourner Family Peace Center

On August 17, 2023 we held our sixth annual golf outing, On Course Fore Safe & Healthy Families, at Ironwood Golf Course to benefit Sojourner Family Peace Center. With the support of our sponsors, more than 130 golfers, volunteers, individuals and organizations donating auction items, more than $50,000 was raised for Sojourner. Over the past six years our golf outings have raised more than $200,000 to benefit area nonprofits.

A big thank you to our premier sponsors, Platinum Sponsor Centivo, Gold Sponsor Artemis By Nomi Health and Silver Sponsors the Milwaukee Business Journal and the Multhauf Foundation, Ltd. Check out a video and photo gallery of the day’s activities.

Milwaukee Business Journal

Sponsoring the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Power Breakfast Series

For the third consecutive year BHCG and Centivo were proud sponsors of Milwaukee Business Journal Power Breakfast series. The business information and networking series features CEOs and other business headline makers in a unique Q&A format. The four events in the 2023 series were held at the Pfister Hotel. The series offers an opportunity for sponsors to provide opening comments at one event and exhibit at all the events. It is an excellent vehicle to gain visibility with area business leaders.
