A Celebration of Success
From the Executive Director

Many thanks to all those who helped to plan, participate and attend our fifth Business Health Care Group Annual Meeting, Employers Walking in Unison A Celebration of Success on October 26. Despite the weather, we had significant attendance and enjoyed an engaging morning that we hope imparted valuable knowledge and inspiration.

As the theme of the meeting implied, we explored the successful path of our organization thus far and celebrated and heard from key players in that success. We also shared new information about valuable new programs and services and heard from employers about strategies they’ve used to be successful. A highlight of the morning was former Fox6 Milwaukee consumer reporter Katrina Cravy’s inspiring keynote address.

The program began with an update of how we have successfully bent our region’s cost trend over the last 13 years and an overview of our broad network strategy that focuses on high value providers. We also discussed the value proposition of BHCG membership and the BHCG-UnitedHealthcare value proposition and our recently announced expansion into northeastern Wisconsin.

Driving Meaningful Change award

There is no question we would not have succeeded to the extent we have in improving health care value in our region were it not for the support and involvement of our member employers’ CEOs and their executive leadership. That is why, this year, we were pleased to present the fifth Driving Meaningful Change award not to an organization or an individual, but rather to the executive leadership of BHCG members both past and present. They were deserving of the award for their vision, commitment and guidance in the market changing success of the BHCG.

Accepting the award on behalf of the collective leadership were Paul Purcell, chairman of Robert W. Baird and Keith Nosbusch, chairman of Rockwell Automation. Both Paul and Keith have been integrally involved in guiding the BHCG over the years and they shared their unique perspective of the evolution of our efforts and what has led to our success. Videos of their acceptance of the award are available on our website.

Discussion panel

It is the sum of the programs employers implement over time that makes for successful long-term benefits strategies. As part of our program, we featured an interactive discussion panel moderated by Wisconsin Health News Editor Tim Stumm and made up of representatives of member employers and industry leaders. Videos of these presentations are available on our website.

Candace Arentz, assistant director of employee benefits at Northwestern Mutual, spoke about her company’s efforts to engage employees to use high value employers through UnitedHealthcare’s Premium Designation program. Lisa Mrozinski, director of total rewards at Robert W. Baird, addressed how Baird has used the Best Doctors informed decision-making program to produce better outcomes for employees and dependents.

David Smith of UnitedHealthcare explained the unique benefits of the Virtual Health Plan, an exclusive program for the BHCG that builds a robust, continuous cost action plan to produce better outcomes. Amit Ahluwalia told attendees more about Flock’s innovative HR information system and administration tools that can help employers save considerable time and money.

Keynote address

A critical component of our efforts to improve health care value and individual health is to engage employees and dependents in a meaningful way and encourage active consumerism. The morning’s program concluded with an impactful keynote presentation by former Fox6 consumer reporter Katrina Cravy. She shared stories and insights from her years of going to bat for consumers to inspire the audience to consider customer service in a new light.

We recognized numerous individual and organizations that have contributed to the BHCG’s success in the past and will be integral to advancing the BHCG’s strategy going forward. A listing of these individuals and organizations can be found in the executive summary of our annual meeting.

Thanks again to all those present at the meeting. We trust attendees found the content of the morning’s program of interest and significant value for their own success path. As we expand our service area northward and grow our organization, the time has never been better to take advantage of the BHCG membership value proposition. We hope you join us in our continued success by walking in unison with us.
