Membership Poised to Grow Substantially; Annual Meeting Scheduled for October 24

From the Executive Director

Jeffrey Kluever

Bringing the benefits of BHCG membership to more employers throughout our 22-county service area is a high priority for our organization. To that end, I am pleased to announce we have secured commitments from several large and medium size employers that will be joining BHCG, effective January 1, 2018.

Adding these employers will substantially increase our membership totals, both in terms of member employers and covered lives. We will be announcing the names of these employers in the coming months and anticipate being able to announce additional employers also joining us January 1.

These membership gains are made possible as employers and their advisors gain an appreciation of the strong value proposition of membership in BHCG. We look forward to working with our new and current member employers on implementing and adding to the considerable list of employer solutions offered through BHCG membership.

Register Now for our Annual Meeting, Health Care Forecast: Brighter Skies Ahead, to be held Tuesday morning, October 24, at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward. Please join us to learn how BHCG has leveraged member employer purchasing power, experience and knowledge to make remarkable progress in leading change and creating health care value for employers, employees, families and the community.

Our keynote address will be from Todd Smasal, Director, Total Rewards at Northwestern Mutual. In his address, Choose Well. Be Well. – Engaging Employees, Todd will share Northwestern Mutual's journey to positively impact its health care cost trend and outcomes through better consumer decisions. He will talk about what his organization has done to motivate employees and dependents to seek care from high performing providers through the UnitedHealthcare Premium® designation program and benefit tiering. He will also discuss the company's future goals and strategies.

Also on the program will be John Santa, MD, MPH, Director of Dissemination, OpenNotes and Dr. Dirk Steinert, Medical Director and Chair – Clinical Practice Council, Ascension Wisconsin – Columbia St. Mary's discussing OpenNotes®. OpenNotes started in response to the desire for patients and family members to be able to easily access their full medical records including visit notes. It is an international movement dedicated to making health care more open and transparent by urging doctors, nurses, therapists, and others to share their visit notes with patients. Hear how Columbia St. Mary's is using the OpenNotes tool.

The morning will also feature the presentation of the sixth annual BHCG Leading Change, Creating Value Award (renamed this year to reflect our new branding). Registration and breakfast begin at 8:00 am and the program is from 8:30 to 11:00 am. We look forward to seeing you there!

As always, do not hesitate to contact me at 262-875-3312 x1 or jkluever@BHCGWI.org if you have questions or would like to learn more about the exciting projects BHCG is pursuing.
