UnitedHealthcare Partnership Update

Featuring news and information about our new administrative partner, effective January 1, 2016

With the move to UnitedHealthcare effective January 1, 2016, there will be considerable news and information the BHCG will want to share with member employers, their advisors, providers and our strategic partners.  This column will provide a forum for the dissemination of this information.

Partnership Mission Statement

When the BHCG and UnitedHealthcare representatives began discussions about entering into a long-term partnership, they developed a mission statement to guide their discussions and negotiations.  That mission statement proved valuable then and will continue to steer our organizations as we work to launch our partnership January 1, 2016.  It reads:

“UnitedHealthcare and the BHCG seek a health care market where providers compete to meet patient needs by delivering quality care at the best cost.  Patients are empowered and held accountable for their health outcomes and improved purchasing patterns through the use of resources, tools and plan design provided through their employer’s plan offering.”

UnitedHealthcare adds UW Health to its provider network

UW Health and UnitedHealthcare recently announced they have executed a new multi-year contract. The agreement, effective May 1, 2015, will give most people covered by UnitedHealthcare’s individual and employer-sponsored plans in-network access to all UW Health facilities and physicians.

UW Health is an academic health center associated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  In addition to its hospitals, it has more than 60 clinic locations across the state providing access to more than 1,300 physicians in 98 specialties.

Quoted in a UW Health press release, Dustin Hinton, president and CEO, UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin, had this to say about the new relationship:  "UW Health is an important provider of health care services, and this new network relationship provides customers in Wisconsin with in-network access to quality health care.  Our work together will give individuals and families access to critical health services in their local community and greatly enhances our ability to respond to consumers’ specific health needs."
