Caregiver support – Humana stands ready

Did you know that more than 65 million people in the U.S. provide care for the chronically ill, disabled or aged family members or friends*? There is a good chance that you or a significant number of your employees are in that group. If they provide transportation, run errands, do household tasks, help with medications or dress, bathe and feed someone, they are a caregiver. The stress an employee faces as a caregiver can negatively impact their own health and their job performance. Recognizing this, Humana now offers a range of support services for caregivers.

It can be very demanding for someone to care for a loved one while also maintaining their own health and well-being. Humana wants to help your caregiver employees by offering a range of free caregiver support services. Some of the services do not even require Humana membership of either the employee or the person being cared for. Free online caregiver resources are available at Caregivers: Humana's Support and Resource Center for Caregiving. Here they can find:

  • Information about how to take care of themselves so they can take better care of their loved ones
  • A free 33-page Caregiver's Toolkit they can download with valuable information including tips for getting through routine caregiving challenges
  • Information about exercise, nutrition, and regular health exams and preventive screenings to keep the person someone is caring for healthy
  • Information about how to sign-up for the quarterly Caregiver Newsletter
  • Information about ordering caregiving CDs and DVDs and the book, Wellbeing for Dummies

If your employee or the person being cared for is a Humana member, a variety of additional services are available. For a description of these services go to: Caregiving Support Services for Humana Members.

Humana also offers customized, supplemental caregiver programs on a “pay for” basis for those caregivers needing additional help in managing the care of a loved one. These services include personalized care planning and in-home caregiving services.
