I recently had the opportunity to attend the 6th Annual Pharmacy Benefits Academy sponsored by the Midwest Business Group on Health in Chicago. The two-day Academy focused on the issue of rapidly increasing pharmacy benefit costs, driven primarily by a wave of new high cost specialty drugs hitting the market, and employers' strategies to deal with them. The Academy reinforced my belief that the BHCG and its employer members must focus on managing pharmacy benefits and their skyrocketing costs. Read More

Informed Decision Making initiative — employer implementation begins

In recent editions of The Catalyst (Spring 2011, February 2012 and April 2012) we have reported on our Informed Decision Making initiative. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to assist consumers in making better health care decisions. We reported in April that the BHCG selected Boston-based Best Doctors, Inc. as its informed decision making vendor. With the Agreement now executed, four self-funded BHCG member employers will implement the program beginning September 1. Read More
